BUCKS FALL IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE AT HOME

Quad City Steamwheelers at Bismarck Bucks | Week 7

BUCKS FALL IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE AT HOME
Steamwheelers Roll past the Bucks to Victory

Bismarck, ND – The Bismarck Bucks returned to their home field Saturday night only to fall short against the Quad City Steamwheelers in a defensive battle at home.

After a short rest from their travels to California where the Bucks sent the Bay Area Panthers to their fourth straight loss, the Bucks came into the weekend at (3-2) hosting the (2-3) Quad City Steamwheelers. Offense was hard to come by in the first half for both the Bucks and the Steamwheelers, as it was a scoreless first quarter. Both teams missed field goal attempts and moved on to trade touchdowns and field goals in the second quarter.

Jayru Campbell, took the first strike against Quad City, giving the Bismarck a 7-0 lead. Quad City responded on the next possession. After multiple long returns in the game by  Rob Brown, kicker Chase Allbaugh was given a chance at a game-tying 47-yard field goal. Albaugh nailed the long kick to send the game to halftime tied at 10-10.

Quad City rolled into the second half, finding the endzone on their first three possessions, and scoring 19 points of the half. In his second game back after a multi-year absence, the former IFL Offensive Player of the Year, E.J. Hilliard hit Carrigan on a 27-yard strike at the 11:55 mark on the fourth play in the third. Kimo Naehu's PAT boot put the Wheelers up 17-10 and they never lost the lead.

Running back Kerrion Moore was key to the Steamwheelers offense as he scored twice in the second half and set the tone for the final 30 minutes. Taj Tolbert would lead a fourth quarter touchdown drive, connecting with Edgar Allen Poe Jr. on a three-yard pass for Poe Jr.'s seventh touchdown of the season, but it was nowhere near enough. Quad City was stopped and left at the Bismarck 1-yard line in the final play of the game.

The Steamwheelers held the Bucks to just one touchdown in the second half dominating on both sides of the ball to win 36-17.

The Bismarck Bucks (3-3) will begin their preparation for their next battle, as they continue their three game homestand and welcome the San Diego Strike Force (1-4) to Bismarck at 3:05 pm on Sunday, May 1st at the Bismarck Event Center. This week's home game theme is "COOP Night".
